Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. prayers needed iwent to new gi doctor i was tooken off treatments in 2008 non responder i did 32 weeks i have cirrhosis and was told my tumor maker was elevated which could indicate cancer my potassium has been staying to low even though i;m taking potassium suppliments and my platlets are to low i;m up for two out patient surgeries the doc. wants to try me on the interferon and rib again or rib and sovaldi treatment i really don't know what choice to take i ;m hoping for positive info. nothing i been hearing from docs .isn;;t to positive
I'm doing riba & solvaldi, geno 1A, pulled off SOC in 2009, now mild cirrhosis
My tumor marker is elevated, too but nothing seen on CT
Getting rid of the virus will resolve many problems but we will always be at risk for HCC
The solv/riba is a very manageable tx for only 12 weeks
The combo depends on your GT. Discuss with your doc if you are a good candidate to do Sovaldi and Olysio. This combo has little to NO side effects and is a 12 week treatment. As someone who failed tx previously, your insurance should cover this.
The next tier is Sov, Olysio and Riba. Riba has side effects that are not as bad as Interferon and effect everyone differently. This tx is often given for 24 weeks.
If your GI doesn't want to try S & O - again, depending on your GT - you might want to get a second opin from a liver specialist or infectious disease specialist.
