Gilead's GS-7977 with genotype 2/3 is an easier one to treat Hepatitis C and the drug, in combination with generic ribavirin, could get its initial approvals next year. In an equity research note to clients, S&P Capital IQ equity analyst Steven Silver viewed, "We see GS-7977 being combined with GILD's internal candidate GS-5885 in the more challenging genotype 1, including those patients who failed on previous treatments, in 2013. If successful, we expect the regimen to be filed for regulatory approval in 2014, and launched in 2015."

I'm taking an HIV class in school and we're talking about all the amazing meds they're coming up with to stop replication of this virus (though it keeps mutating!). It gives me a lot of hope towards Hep C tx's especially with the recent attention hep c has been getting in the news and from the CDC

I thought those were good links too - I did read about approvals in 2015 - but I don't know that triple failures are on the radar for trials - I hope to find a "good" trial that will accept TTx failures even if just as a wild card - cautious not to overtreat due to resistance

Well as one with an HIV/HCV coinfection it is promising for certain. One of my ID team members told me in March when I was dx'd acutely with HCV that this was the time to have it as txs were exploding. Well I'd have rather gotten this in a few years from now if I had to choose when with never being my first choice. What was discouraging also was that they told me that HCV therapies were about 15 years behind HIV!! I was not expecting that but it certainly is true. I've had HIV for over 17 years and remember those old days pretty well when they had no idea what they were doing. The new few drugs were very toxic and many people are not here today to talk about it sadly and others had severe reactions. I was on some crazy drug regimen in 1997 but had to stop 3 months later from toxicity. It was years before I went on drugs again and I've made all of my tx decisions there since. Many were not faced with a great choice and several had to jump in blindly.

For some here, they're in similar situations but for many others they can wait. I'm glad I'm treating with SOC tx for this as it was the right thing to do for a new infection (acute and acute treaters have the virus for less than 6 months and begin treating within that timeframe respectively). If I was chronic with a stable liver though, I'm pretty certain that I'd have waited for better txs. But we all need to make our best decisions with our unique circumstances.

When this is done, I will be celebrating BIG TIME!!
