i got a call from the RA doctor today and i don't have rheumatoid arthritis even thought i tested positive the first time so don't panic if you test positive first get tested again...its common for people with hep c to test positive for RA and not realy have it..just thought you all would like to know.

HCv can be hell on your joints from what i hear......i feel for all of those that experience joint pain as well as those with R/A.
Getting relieve can be a really hard thing to do.

When I finished treatment, I also had great pain, and was tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis, but tested negative.

But then he had also sent me for an special x-ray since I could not sit anymore for a long period of time, my hip and lower back were hurting so badly.

We even thought of the aciatica nerve, but nope, what it was, I had several degenerated disks on my lower back, so that was 1.5 years post treatment.

Since it would get worst and worst he sent me to see a Rheumatologist, and she was very smart and knew her stuff, and said that I did have DDD, and OsteoArthritis but not RA, Thank God.

Cause it is a well known fact that someone exposed to Interferon especially those for 11 months, to inherit RA, so I was quite relieved to know that I wasn't positive for RA.

I had the same thing happen to me, only with the HCV test.

1997 - tested x2 = negative
1999 - tested x1 = positive
(had sona gram on liver - clean (no biopsy for me to chicken)
2000 - x 1 = negative

Moved out of state, went to doc in 2003 cause I hurt my back. Follow up visit he says....You have HCV. Hummmm.....now HCV doesn't show up on a routine blood test. What in the world possessed him to check for hep when I went in for a back injury?? ( oh wait....maybe cause I had insurance then and they would pay for it?)

Fast forward to 2007. (no insurance now) Land in hospital, can't breath, tons of tests run, tons of results come back.......none for Hep C.....hummm

So today 2009 I'm going with negative.

Lots of false positives out there. If you can afford it always good idea to check and double check.

thats interesting about the hcv bear...maybe you had it and cleared it yourself or maybe the docs are just full of it sometimes...i don't trust most doctors so i check twice on most things if i can..glad to hear your negative for hcv. bet it was a relief for you also

One of my good friends here had the same thing happen to her. She was so upset at the thought of dealing with treatment for RA. After further testing, it's negative for RA. I, like a lot of us with hepc, suffer with joint and muscle pain. Don't take anything for the pain, I try to just work it out. My arms and legs hurt all the time. What's a girl to do???
