I have been off tx for 3 weeks and I am still losing hair. It sucks. So go ahead and vent. You have every right to be mad and it has nothing to do with vanity. But just keep telling yourself that it will grow back. And feel free to vent until it does.

Thank you Nancy. Also, I was just going to make an appointment to get my hair cut and coloured. They just to my roots. Any thoughts on this?

Hair loss sucks. I hope your tx is only 24 weeks. I have very thin, fine hair too. If it's not combed right I can see my scalp everywhere. I am using the "grow the front out long" method instead of any bangs. I sufferered th worst loss on my front hair line.

Don't worry about it....it will grow back.

I hear ya. I'm on 48, also. You won't lose it all.......just remember that it gets thin...so longer covers the bald spots. If you got a short curly perm or something I would think the head would show. I know when i wake up and my hair is sometimes a rats nest from tossing, all i see is my scalp.

My hair loss started around week 12 too, but so far it hasn't been bad...it just gets in my mouth when I'm showering. I'm hoping to ride it out for the last few weeks.

Your hair will grow back. Treatment will be over soon. Just get through today, and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. :-)

I hate to give you any advice about coloring hair since I have heard different points of view. Ask your stylist about using something gentle.

My own personal opinion is that darker hair appears to look thinner than lighter hair since your scalp is more visible with darker hair. Just a matter of contrast. But that's just my opinion.

We'll bump up your post and maybe someone will come along with some better advice.

I keep my hair short and its kinda thick. Not much thinning. I did notice my hair is straighter.

i had hair loss on old soc tx. not to worry it'll come back post tx.....please don't stress over it.....concentrate on getting well.........then recovery..............

I had/have hair loss, mostly on top. Also I have 2 bald patches from my brain surgery. I colored my hair during tx and it turned out fine. I also had a wig, which I rarely wore, but it helped on days I was too tired to wash my hair.
I found a great hair product last week at Sallys, It looks like eye shadow, but u pick a shade, then brush it on ur thinning spots. Now, I feel like I have some hair as it no longer looks white like my scalp. This is a must have product!

i had a gay friend who had spray on hair,,,to cover small bald patches....it came in different colors...it was stringy..but shampooed out.....

I don't know what your coloring is but light is the way to go. Now would be a good time to try something new, maybe a strawberry blonde for summer! Take a friend with you to a Sally's beauty supply or something similiar and put swatches up to your face, have the friend yea or nay them for you. Pamper yourself and make an appointment with a hairdresser and go for it! IMO this is not a good time to color your own hair if you have never done it.

Debbie, please don't let the hair loss be a big issue. I lost hair when I was taking chemo for my liver cancer before my transplant. But it did come back, and yours will too. I can't take hep c treatments because of the transplant and other issues with my labs. But if something does come out to help my hep c in my new liver before it is too late, I don't think hair loss will drag me down. I was told to keep a positive attitude and a sense of humor about that issue. I got my hair cut short, starting using a hair thickening that was recommended by the lady at Super Cuts, and bought a wig that looked a lot like my hair. I even looked online at the beautiful scarves, but got my transplant before ever ordering them. Now I'm on an anti-rejection med that gives me extra hair - even in places I don't want it, like my arms, face, eyebrows, and even my 'bigger than normal' tummy - shaving my arms for the first time in my life! If I wanted to let it all grow before Halloween, I could be a werewolf without buying a costume!

I am glad that you posted this. I too find the hair loss discouraging. I am about 2 1/2 weeks post treatment and today, I think a little less hair came out after my shower. I did have it cut shorter which helped. My hair color is very light, lighter that is used to be and I think that others notice is less because of that. I only colored my hair with a touch up, once during the last 7 months. For some reason, my roots are mostly colorless and so barely noticeable. I think that I probably lost 1/3 of my hair but others don't seem to notice. I have used the Nioxin products throughout treatment. I am glad this is temporary but yes, it is frustrating and discouraging!

Hi Bestshot- I've been having some hair thinning since week 4, but now that I am on week 14 it seems to have kicked into high gear.. Ugh. About 3 weeks ago, I cut my hair- went from just past my shoulders to my jawline and layers all over. Not a great look for me, but at this point I'm not sure I really care...
When I dry my hair, I use the dryer on a low setting and low heat, and "scrunch" it so it's kind of messy looking. If I dry it straight, the hair loss seems more noticeable.
I know it's not a fun thing to deal with, but remind yourself that this too is temporary! ((HUGS))
