Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Well, I just my 3 mo VL after doing the Sovaldi and Ribavirin, and I am HEP C free!!!! What a wonderful way to start the New Year! 2014 was absolutely horrible. I was hospitalized 7x for complications of my cirrhosis, hepatic encephalophy - was in a coma for 3 days, acute kidney failure, ascites a few times, etc., been tapped 3 times too. I am Stage 4 cirrhosis and have an appointment with the transplant evaluation team next Monday. I did 6 months of Sovaldi/Ribavirin and I previously done 48 weeks of interferon/ribavirin/incivek (which was not successful). My body just wants to get back to normal. Does anyone else get weird rashes, or their hair falls out, or just plain old tired ALL THE TIME? I thank GOD for helping me over this first hurdle. I wish the same for everyone else here! Linda
I had a liver transplant 4 1/2 years ago, but I had not taken Hep C treatments in advance, so the Hep C moved into my transplanted liver. The transplant got rid of my early Cirrhosis and HCC (a cancerous tumor). This past Spring, I took Hep C treatments Sovaldi and Olysio, and now, 7 months upon completion, I'm free of the Hep C. The transplant is not going to be the hard part when it comes to the upcoming struggles you'll have to face in this new year, but you already got one very big hurdle out of your way by stomping the virus out of your system which is so great!
The hard part is going to be your first year of recovering from the transplant which I think you'll be able to handle pretty well.
there are going to be times when you ask yourself "Was all of this really worth all of this suffering?" and that's when you have to focus on your gratitude @ still being alive and getting a little bit better one day at a time even if you start thinking that there's not that much progress going on yet. Because it will happen! Only it will happen when it's darn good and ready to happen and most definitely not when you want it to happen and this is where acceptance of your situation is key to staying positive and as a result your humility of the situation will be rewarded with much progress afterwards! So get ready for the rife of your life because it's going to be a wild one! I don't know if you remember me, but I had my transplant a bit over 17 years ago, and I remember every minute of it in my first year of recovery like it was yesterday!
