Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

Ha! I just logged on to post this very same article. Interesting stuff in it. Loved the response to the question about lowering the drug cost once the cost is recovered. Anyway, we knew the GOUGE was a'comin.' I hope it's not priced so damn high where insurance companies turn it down. How will reinfections be handled?

This is the drug plus riba & interferon that I took as a clinical trial. One year later they say I'm still clear but not feeling it. Something is still going on in the liver area with lots of pain. I guess it was an answer to prayer for me to be in this trial because of the high $$ of these drugs.

I'm one of the LUCKY ones that is losing my high deductable health ins??? Don't know what my future holds on getting more ins. Dr apt yesterday results of more heart problems & sleep problems. Feeling verrry discouraged.

Elvis it could be sides of Interferon. Some folks recover okay and other are left with all kinds of lasting sides, fatigue, jt pain, eye problems..just feeling ten years older than before starting.
I hope you start to feel better soon. Me, still struggling

Kramer, sorry you are still struggling also. I just feel like a hypochondriac (?) when the dr says "I should be feeling better". I'M NOT!!!

I know more tests are needed to find out what is going on, but I'm in the waiting game because of ins problems. But I'm not happy to hear that this may be a permanent thing. How long have you been off the interferon?

Hope every one who wants it gets it after going through the hell I went through last year with the interferon and riba I wouldn't wish anyone to have to go through that witch isn't cheap either '

I stopped as a non responder in July 2010. I am probably on eof the worst case Interferon scenarios though but others who achieved SVR report feeling different ever since treatment. That is the curse of Peg, everyone one has a different experience and Dr.s just do now know about how to address lasting sides. My Dr. agrees but always just shrugs his shoulders and looks at me like he doesn't have a clue.
