Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
Although i am very much a pasty white English guy I grew up in Spain and just seemed to keep a summers tan very well.
it wasn't until my ferritin had fallen to under 400 that the nurse pointed out that my skin was lighter.
Now I just feel cheated.!
At least i had a tan before!
Now I have bruises and needle marks!
For the benefit of anyone that is new to all this I would like to add that I have a lot more energy back and mostly feel much happier and healthier so jokes aside, it is a fare swap!
The "blotches" on my shins have faded since my levels have dropped, some have gone completely but there are a few less visisble ones there still, it's taken about a year
