Hemochromatosis Support Group
Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
Here are a few things I've read so far...

Before I was diagnosed and began the phlebs which brought my iron levels down to almost normal levels, I had contracted salmonella, typhus, e coli, many times because I travel and live abroad most of the time. These infections were also quite resistant to antibiotics (Cipro) and it took about 5 years actually to get clean blood tests for the typhus especially, only after a Naturopath doctor put me on a 2 month intensive liver detox, apparently the typhus has "hidden out" in my liver and was unresponsive to all the antibios. I am now totally clear, but do get tested every six month however just to be sure as I still travel and live sometimes in areas that are risky, e.g. Mexico, the Caribbean, S. America, etc.

I am uninformed about bacterial lung issues, sorry. Your repeated infections could be unrelated to HH but that is just a guess. The more antibios you take, the less effective they are in your body to the point of being ineffective, this happened to me with the Cipro after 5 years trying to destroy the typhus. The liver detox did the trick however. Wish I had more info for you. Sorry. Have you been diagnoses with any specific lung disease?
If your blood is too thick, the hormones etc are not getting to the cells properly, and the pathogens thrive, meaning lots of infections. It occurs to me that it could also be a reason why, for thyroid patients, T3 (which is a thyroid hormone) is not getting to the cells, so is having little effect.
Viscous blood also increases risk of heart attack and stroke.
Perhaps worth looking into?

Natural blood thinners are flax seed, ginkgo biloba and omega 3 oil. They don't work for me but might help others.
