Hemochromatosis Support Group
Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
so i know this has nothing to do with HH, but you guys are good at giving HH advice, so i thought maybe you could help with this. I looked for another group on DS for this, but i didn't find one.
So i'm a student at UAH. As most of you have probably seen on the news, there was a shooting on campus last friday. Three teachers died, with 4 others injured. now this is enough for one student to have to take in but it turns out the shooter lived in my neighborhood. She's one of my friend's mom's.
I don't know what to do, i'm constantly thinking about the event, and all the emotions it brought me. Not only do i not feel safe on campus, but now not even at my own house. I've tried talking to my boyfriend, but he doesn't really understand since he's never been through anything like this. I've been in the shooter's house, swam in their pool, she's made me dinner. I'm worried that something like this could happen again? that someone i know could just snap.
Were off school for this week, which i'm glad. i need time to get everything through my head.
any suggestions to get through this? or thoughts? i know i'm kinda rambling, but i need some help.

This is an isolated incident with someone who "flew under the radar" so to speak and was allowed to function fully in society. This lady must have some pathological problem and, now, she has a treasure trove of legal problems to boot.
You will see tragedy in your life. Fortunately, it doesn't happen every day to people you know, love, and trust.
I would imagine Personnel Policies will be policed at the school and it's just not likely this will happen again at UAH. I would put it out of my mind as a concern and chock it up to feeling vulnerable yourself.
The accused shooter had specific people in mind and, at least, it wasn't a generalized and random event.
I tried to stay out on campus last night for the first time since the incident. at about midnight i started to have a little freak out moment and decided to go home so i could talk to my mom and just feel better. i told me room mate and she called me a f'ing baby. which was not what i wanted to hear. i just needed some help from a friend and she shut me down. i know i'm not weak for asking for help, and that everyone is affected differently by stuff like this but i was so taken back that she said that. :(
so i did not have a good night.
