Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
hi I’m new to the group I’m waiting for my gene test to come back but am curious about my blood test results. My iron is normal (22), but my Ferratin is 692. My IBCU is low and my iron saturation is high. I have many symptoms of HH, but wondering, can you have normal iron and HH? My hemoglobin is normal too. Tired (literally and figuratively) of waiting. (I have a parent with HH, the other hasn’t been checked).
Anyone else have HH and normal iron?
The two important readings for HH are serum Ferritin (measures amount of stored iron in the body) and transferrin saturation (which transports ferritin)..
I am not sure which of the tests for iron you are referring to - I wondered if it was haemoglobin.
