Naproxen question and update!

Its been a long time since i've been on here, but I have a good reason!
My "fibromyalgia" is pretty much under control. I'm able to walk long distances and stand for a lot longer than I use to! :) I say fibromyalgia in quotations because my doctors never quite figured out what is wrong. But i'm feeling better the the medicine i'm on now so i'm okay with that for now.

I also have a question.
My boyfriend's uncle recently was diagnosed as a carrier of the HHC gene (i'm not sure which one) and just got a liver biopsy done. My boyfriend's dad also thinks that since his brother is just a carrier that he and his children don't need to keep an eye on their iron or get tested.
Any tips of how to convince him that he should at least get his iron checked the next time he goes to the doctor?

Also my I've heard that Naproxen can be bad for your liver. My doctors have me taking a 500mg pill twice a day for my "fibromyalgia. Could this cause my iron to rise? or cause a different kind of liver damage?

emma. i don't know about the naproxen, does it have acetametaphen in it? that is in tylenol, norco, vicodin. that is hard on the liver and should be kept to a minimum . i also take an anti inflammatory . i finally got one of my three children to be tested and he is a carrier. as is my sister. i have full blown hh. weee. good luck. tell them the iron test isn't that expensive and is just a blood draw.

Don't know about Naproxen specifically but many strong drugs do stress the liver, as can even simple everyday things like protein if consumed excessively e.g. from powders. People with HH should not stress their liver if possible. However if your HH is under control & your iron levels are normal & you have not got liver damage it shouldn't be any more of a problem than for anyone else.

Your boyfriends Uncle could be the lucky one, just being a carrier. Your boyfriends father may have two copies as we don't know what their parents status was. He should get tested for his childrens sake, if he does not have any gene his kids can be fairly sure they will be OK. If he has one gene & his wife is also a carrier each kid has a 25% chance of having 2 copies of the gene, 50% of being a carrier, 25% free. Surely he should take the test so the family knows where the gene is or isn't so future generations know early before there is damage.

How come your BF's uncle got tested to find he was a carrier? As a carrier he should't have any symptoms. Did another sibling have full HH?

I'm pretty sure that the uncle was tested because he was having liver problems and so they tested him to rule it out, and when they found that he was a carrier they decided to do the biopsy. Thank you for the %'s on how likely it is to pass on, he asked me about that but I couldn't remember but it sounded like if there was a good chance that it could be passed on that he would do a test. Thank you!
