Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
Hi Everyone,
My husband was diagnosed last year with hereditary hemochromatosis. His Ferritin levels have dropped from 1330 to 130 in six months. My worry is that my husband is extremely unwell with the pain in his joints and fatigue.
The doctors have just given him codeine but it's not really helping.
I would be so grateful to hear if anyone else on this forum is suffering with the same symptoms and can help in
Make sure he is not anaemic. That is a big drop in short time. My level was 2003 and it took 18 months to get mine in order. Once a fortnight 500mls. This was to make sure it did not make me any more fatigued than I was or anaemic.
