Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.

Jewelery and HH

This may sound odd but has anyone noticed difficulty in wearing jewelery? I have a number of rings and even a watch that I can't wear anymore as I get red raw patches on my fingers or wrist when I do.
I was wondering if the dissimilar metals (iron and gold) were causing the problem

Thoughts?

I haven't had problems with jewery but before I was diagnosed in 1998, any time I was on a particular software program at work, none of my keyed in entries would work or be accepted.
At another job after diagnosis, there was a joke whenever my computer would go crazy, my manager would suggest I needed a phlebotomy. LOL

LOL, I used to set off the airport metal detectors but the hand wands couldn't find anything. It was a joke among my traveling companions - until I was diagnosed with a ferratin level of almost 7000.

My serum ferritin was only 369 at diagnosis. Wonder what would have happened if it were 7000 like yours. LOL

I've stopped wearing a watch, not because it causes any type of skin problem, but more a muscular ache/tenderness. It was a metal braclet type. It was never too tight or restrictive. And long before my diagnosis I did wonder if the metals or battery could be interfering with my body.

I get the same thing! I never considered that it could be related to HH. I was just diagnosed 5 months ago but started having the problem about 7 years ago. It happens with belt buckles, rings, watches, some necklaces. I find it interesting this happens to you too.
