Hemochromatosis Support Group
Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
Rick, phlebotamies do directionally lower the A1c numbers due to the blood cells replaced not having the same time in your body before the A1c test.
A normal diabetes test will NOT find Diabetes Insipidus (DI) as it's completely unrelated to insulin & thus diabetes mellitus.
DI is considered a "rare" disease, however it doesn't appear to be associated with HH (for the most part, very few studies done between the two) so not tested for. This study
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12148115
suggests it may not be quite so rare in HH patients.
Also from the "always-tired-thirsty-and-peeing" post (link below) and my condition it would possibly seem to be a milder form of DI that we may have (if indeed we do).
