Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
i was diagnosed hereditary about 5 years ago. My iron was around 700 phlebotomies have resolved that. Concern is recently my bilirubin jumped pretty high (normally runs high) but significant jump with my hemochromatosis made Dr refer me to a gastro Dr and an ultrasound. Radiologist diagnosed me with liver hemangioma (benign tumor) but I need MRI to rule out something else. Of course nothing happens fast have to wait weeks for every appt. my concern is this tumor is fairly common just with my hemochromatosis and elevated bilirubin I'm concerned could be something else. Has anyone had liver issues as a result of them having hemochromatosis?
I have hemochromatosis, diagnosed by a rheumatologist who continued treating me for arthritis (treatment I did not need, and one pill he prescribed would have put me on dialysis, since I had already lost a kidney during all of this), and that was not the real pain problem. the real problem was hemochromatosis, celiac (diagnosed by a gastroenterologist), gout diagnosed by a kidney specialist, and a disc problem in the lower back, diagnosed by a orthopedic surgeon. The disc seems to cause most of the pain, and if I don't take care of that, pretty soon the back bone is connected to the neck bone, you remember that song, and my whole body can seize up and end up in pain, one thing after another. So, I don't let it get started anymore, I nip pain in the bud.
So far my liver is fine, and I wish you all the best with these tests and hope that yours is fine and only what you know, something benign. Remember, they have to over test to rule things out.
