Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
This is an interesting question.
I think my dental health was affected by the increase in my serum ferritin levels between the menopause and diagnosis - a period of around 4-5 years.
I experienced tenderness in my gums and some bleeding for the first time in my life following the menopause and the problem gradually became worse over time.
The tenderness and bleeding gradually reduced as my ferritin levels went down over the last year since I have had intensive treatment for the HH. Since the my ferritin levels have been below 50 I have not had this problem.
I wonder if the increase in iron allowed more bacteria or different bacteria to thrive in the mouth environment.
I managed the situation by going to the dental hygienist more often, using a softer toothbrush, using dental tape and dental brushes daily, changing my toothpaste and mouthwash to one recommended for bleeding gums. This all helped but my gums remained tender and bled easily until my ferritin levels were normal.
I will do some research on this.

The redcross refused to take my blood and advised that I have to wait for another 120 days because I travelled to a Malaria infested country. I only went in for a day trip for lunch and shopping , now I am barred from blood donation, Sigh!!!!
Last year, my teeth were hurting and shaky too. One back molar even fell out. So I begin doing my home remedy treatment, diligently. I use clove oil to stop the pain and paint my teeth and gums with hydrogen peroxide 10%. It works, the gums healed, plagues removed and cleaned. The teeth stops shaking, now strong and healthy again.
