Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.

Well im glad I'm not the only one who still has these- Thanks ladies and gents I was getting a bit worried.

Had the heart palpitations when ferritin levels were higher. I started at 453 ferritin. How is your TSAT? My TSAT was higher when I had the palpitations. Though doctor hasn't mentioned how high my TSAT was when I started. My liver felt enlarged.
I had 12 weeks of phlebotomies from April to September. In September I tested at 65 ferritin. I haven't experienced any palpitations since April. Maybe they are related to the ferritin levels. My next visit is October 27th. Dietwise, I have really cut back on heme iron. I eat mostly white meats, whole grains, vegetables and fruits. I allow for about 4 oz. of red meat a week. I have taken up aerobic exercise to see if it will help keep the iron in check. I figure if I'm breathing then the oxygen is helping the iron get used in my body. I am reading about women athletes and how they deplete their iron stores by exercise. I figure if exercise makes athletes anemic then exercise could deplete the iron stores in blood and tissues in HH patients in much the same way. I don't know if there is any scientific merit to the whole idea.
The iron in our blood carries the oxygen to our tissues and the result is sweat (which rids our bodies of iron) and CO2.

Iron and intense exercise:
Many men and women who engage in regular, intense exercise such as jogging, competitive swimming, and cycling have marginal or inadequate iron status [1,81-85]. Possible explanations include increased gastrointestinal blood loss after running and a greater turnover of red blood cells. Also, red blood cells within the foot can rupture while running. For these reasons, the need for iron may be 30% greater in those who engage in regular intense exercise [1].
