I am having a lot of hair loss also which I have read is a symptom of HH. I just had my second phleb today. I hope eventually it will start growing back.

I am de ironed and I still loose tons of hair if thats any help I see it on the back of my shirts especially my black ones and in my bed, even my b.f has my hair on his clothes..I haven't seen a difference yet.

I've had hair loss blamed on "thyroid condition" for maybe 18yrs?? It had gotten worse after menopause, at age 50 & I'll be 55 next month. I was diagnosed with HH in May of this yr and just had phleb #20 today. A few weeks ago I noticed lots of new growth in my right temple (the worst area)! Though I've had weird high to low to sky high ferritins... I'm hoping the growth continues just by getting rid of my old "sludge" & generating new "sludge".

I am losing hair too, but I am blaming it on my use of Androgel.

Had the same thing happen. I thought is was job stress and hormones. I do think that mine has stopped falling out as much here lately and I have only be "deironed" for about a month.

Hi Pat and welcome to the group. In my opinion it is related to HH. I noticed that I was losing an unusual amount of hair just before diagnosis and my hairdresser also commented on how "crunchy" my hair was when cutting it (iron deposition in the hair). In any event, I am now de-ironed and the hair is growing back, even the hairdresser commented on all the new growth underneath. Only downfall is once it gets over a few inches long (the new growth) its very hard to manage and can be frustrating:-) Hope this helps:-)

Welcome, Pat! I don't have hair loss, but I do have brittle nails which no longer grow much (and I used to have very long, strong nails), osteoporosis and loose teeth (4 extracted so far and more to come). I haven't yet sussed out the precise link, but calcium is needed for strong teeth, bones, nails and hair, and calcium also inhibits iron absorption. I'm sure there's a connection somewhere. Either way, you could try a calcium supplement (I take it too, as not a great milk/cheese/yoghurt gal) - at the very least it'll stop you absorbing so much iron. Black tea is very good, too.

You guys are so awesome! Thanks for your responses. It's funny that the right temple was mentioned. That's the most noticeable spot that is thin. I hate it! I've been dealing with hypothyroidism for for years but have never had hairloss like this. I've also noticed terribly dry skin, much worse than usual. I feel like I'm drying up from the inside - out. I feel like it all has to be connected.

Pat, I have not had much hair loss on my head, but everywhere else. Actually it is kind of nice not having to shave my legs so much!! LOL! Like Andrea though, I have had extensive problems with my teeth and my nails are brittle as well.
And that darn tinnitus!! I get used to it...and then it seems to get louder!! I have lost 28% of my hearing now, so the tinnitus just seems louder I guess from the inside.
Thank God my liver is salvageable at this point they say...much longer before this diagnosis, and it may have been too late. Still have tests to go through, but glad to finally have found out the source of the problem!!

I've had some hair loss, i found this shampoo and it help A LOT. Its a solid shampoo, so its pretty different but i found that its help my hair stay on my head!

Welcome to the group...you'll find everyone here is very supportive and we all seem to have very similar issues. I too have had A LOT of hair loss over the last 2 months. I think some has to do with hormone levels changing (went off the pill for a few months to see if any issues were related to that) plus my ferrtin is super low right now (only 6). So think the combo of the 2 have triggered major hair loss. I'm finally seeing a hematologist who is actually meausuring the right iron levels. My previous doctor only looked at my total iron so I think my iron got too low b/c the wrong tests were being done. Anyway, a friend recommended a biotin supplement that she took for her hair after her baby and she said she's starting to see some hair growth now. I just started taking it this week; crossing my fingers it will work, plus I'm back on the pill.

My dermatologist recommended shampoo and conditioner called Fast. He also recommended a gel called HAIR AGAIN therapy gel that you use at night. It helped for a while, but started falling out again. It goes in spurts. You can get both products online. I just want to get to the bottom of what is causing the hairloss. Maybe once I get de-ironed it will start to come back. I have thin, fine hair as it is. I certainly don't want to become the "hairless wonder!" Thanks for your info.

Ok, I am a hair stylist and I do know that it is normal to loose 50-100 hairs a day. But that is not noticeable for most people. When you start getting this in certain areas there is a problem. Maybe it is from all the stress we go through to get dianosed! LOL I am noticing that my hair is not coloring even. I actually get copper roots with a straight brown color...I know color and this has become a mystery to all of us at my work.And my body is so dry. Oh isn't this fun? So yes, I have brown hair with copper roots, even called in a educator and she can't figure it out. So I am wearing really cute head wraps and scarfs so my copper roots won't scare away potential cleints...LOL

I've heard silica is good for hair, nails & skin (& maybe cartilage as well?). THough I've never used it myself.

Hi pat,I lost alot of body hair,4yrs ago right after I got real sick and they had me in the hospital running test and try different meds,for over 30 days. when I got home I was putting on some deoderant ahd noticed I did not have one hair under my armsnad thining ever where else.I thought it would come back .and Im still waiting,,I really dont mind it looks better!! I just hope it doesnt fall out of my head,it hasnt yet!!You know this could be a good thing...Ther is alot of people that wolld love to loose hair in places it should bee.Maybe we can bottle this and get RICH!!
