Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.

Hey so has anyone tried using accupuncture for pain management associated with HHC?

Any info on this would be appreciated!

Hi Cowgirl,
I have tried accupuncture for pain from car accidents and it really did nothing for me. However, three of my dogs benefited greatly from accupuncture - it even reversed beginning paralysis for one of them. I don't believe dogs can experience a placebo effect so I think it must be effective. Maybe I just went to the wrong person - I should have had my vet do it! I wouldn't think that it could hurt anything so it may be worth a try.

That is so ironic!!!! I am actually in vet school! I was listening to a seminar about veterinary accupuncture and how well it works, and I thought: Why not me? I would totally have a vet do it lol.

I have been on a pain killer for years which does help but doesn't clear the pain. I've had acupuncture a few times now and it is wonderful! The best I had was on a cruise in 2010. Their doctor had studied both western and eastern medicine and that is an incredible benefit. His work was amazing! That was in 2010 and I'm still benefiting where he treated me. I've also had treatments in others areas in Toronto which have lasted a few years.
