Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
I just wanted to say thank you for all of the advice you all have given me and the links to research HH further.
I had my follow up appt today with the dr. My latest bloodwork showed my ferritin at 58! She is putting me on maintenance now. We will check the levels every few months to see how fast I'm reloading.
I'm so glad I found this site! You all have provided me with much information. She said I have educated myself well on HH and know what to avoid as far as foods and supplements go.

I realise your message above was posted a few months ago, but I have just found it. I am pleased to hear you are now on a maintenance regime.
I have also found this forum to be really helpful and am grateful to everyone who contributes.
