Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease characterized by improper processing by the body of dietary iron which causes iron to accumulate in a number of body tissues, eventually causing organ dysfunction. It is the main iron overload disorder. Hemochromatosis is notorious for having symptoms that are often initially misattributed to other diseases.
thought I would post a update. approx. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with hh, and at the time had a ferritin number around 3500. took approx. 1 year to get my numbers to normal. I currently give blood about every 3 months. well my doctor had me do a liver biopsy last week. and great news, they found to fibrosis or cirrhosis and no cancer, total healthy liver, except for mild fat deposits, which is due to diet. so good luck to everyone, and stay on the program, and things can be normal.
This is good news and thank you for sharing it. It is encouraging for me as I only started treatment in September and have not yet gone on to a maintenance regime. I hope you continue to do well.
