Meaningless gifts

I'm always 100% grateful for any gift given to me, but when I can't use it what am I supposed to do? I got a pair of gloves to knit with, but they're so small that they cut off my circulation. My friend spent money on them. My mind tells me I can't throw them out, but they'll only collect dust. Do I keep them and take them out if she ever comes over again and act like I'm using them out of respect or do I do the adult thing and chuck them?

You could set them aside and start collecting things you can give to a
charity organization. Many will pick up from the front of your house.

I would encourage you to donate them to someone who can use them. I wouldn't say anything to your friend unless she asks about them. If she does, thank her again for the gift and admit that you had to give them away, only because they were too small.

We have a GoodWill Box in our house, which covers the homeless shelter and the actual Goodwill. Chuck'em via donation and say honestly, "They're getting good use." (Just not by *you*! ) :-)

I would thank your friend for the gift. Let her know they are too small and ask if they could be exchanged. If they can’t, ask her if she knows someone who could benefit from them or if she would mind if you give them to someone who could use her thoughtful gift.

They were very thoughtful and I have thanked her. She’s pretty insistent that they’re supposed to be a snug fit.

    Does anyone here have a comfort item you carry with you when you go out? For example this is my doll, Annie, and I've recently been bringing her with me when I run errrands flor have an appointment. Holding her comforts me. I've bought her clothes, crocheted for her, I recently bought a personalized blanket with her name on it.  Just wondering if anyone else has a comfort item.
