Heart failure is a condition that can result from any structural or functional cardiac disorder that impairs the ability of the heart to fill with or pump a sufficient amount of blood throughout the body. It is often undiagnosed due to a lack of a universally agreed definition and difficulties in diagnosis, particularly when the condition is considered "mild."
A few months ago I went to the A&E with chest pains, they did and ECG which come back normal, but the chest X ray pointed towards an enlarged heart,
My GP transferred me to a consultant cardiologists who did an echocardiogram, just received a letter from the cardiologists stating , unfortunately it turned out that he is a poor echo subject and we have only limited diagnostic information from the echocardiogram, this suggested a Potentially dilated left atrium and right ventricle with Mildly systolic left ventricular function.
However I would not necessarily rely on the results of the echocardiogram to comment on the structure of his heart.
I will request the cardiac MR to identify whether there are any structural abnormalities, and if there are any significant abnormalities I will arrange a further appointment.
Heart disease has been a major part in our family with for my mother and father and also my mother's brother and cousin who both died before the age of 40
This letter must have been my 38th birthday present for this Monday coming

I can't understand the echo problem? Technicians may have screwed up and didn't give the Cardio a good look. May be your carrying excess weight and fliud and echos are not penentrating far enough to offer enough clarity for a difinitive opinion. Good that they are going to do further tests to determine form and function. I am aware of a new imaging techmology being offered at Princeton University Teaching Hosp. Called the a 64 slice CT imager. It's a virtual 3 d look into the heart and all its hiding places. I don't know your location, but there must be other forward thinking Cardiac Hospitals who are offering the same diagnostics.
So any way, 38 YO. I don't know what your general health is so it's hard for us to throw out any suggestions which we are familiar with. Potential enlarged L. Atrium. w/ dilated L.ventricle.
