Heart Failure Support Group
Heart failure is a condition that can result from any structural or functional cardiac disorder that impairs the ability of the heart to fill with or pump a sufficient amount of blood throughout the body. It is often undiagnosed due to a lack of a universally agreed definition and difficulties in diagnosis, particularly when the condition is considered "mild."
I tried to post a link here from the American Thyroid Association's Journal: Clinical Thyroidology for Patients, but I couldn't see that it was ever posted. Are links unacceptable in this part of Daily Strength?
In any case, it is a report on a health study involving hypothyroid patients, including those with 'subclinical/mild hypothyroidism,' and other individuals who were not previously thought to be hypothyroid. Echocardiography was used to determine the heart function, particularly of those who were subclinical, because they already knew the heart function would be less for those who are simply hypothyroid. The surprise was that over half of the patients with normal TSH and FT4 levels also had subnormal results in the Echo; but after they added thyroid supplementation to that group, their heart function also improved.
