Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
I am new here. I need a support group! I had an MI Jan. 15 this year and was in the hospital for 4 days. I am 64 years old. In 2005 I had 2 stents put in my heart and thought I was doing well. Even the doctor said it was unlikely for me to have a heart attack. My cholesterol numbers were great and I have my blood pressure under control. After a family get-together, both my husband and I came down with a GI virus. We were both throwing up and all that comes with that, when I realized I was also having a heart attack. I called the ambulance and the hospital confirmed that I was. I was moved to another hospital 20 minutes away, and one of my stents was 90% blocked and had to be replaced. I am not sure if the old one is still in there or if they just inserted another one. I am still in shock, and feel upset and slightly depressed. I am beginning cardio rehab in a week or two, as soon as they sort out my insurance, so feel sure this will help. But in the meanwhile, I need to talk to others who've been through similar things. Every time I get a slight pain in the chest or back, or arms or jaw, I panic. I think it's another HA, but then it goes away and I'm okay. I am afraid to be alone. My husband works night shifts and I am happy when he gets home again so I'm not alone. This is the first time I've ever been afraid of being alone at night. Anybody else?
First, Anytime you are in doubt, call 911 and summon help. That's what they're paid for and without patients what would the point of going to that expensive medical school be? So give them some business.
Sounds like you know what a heart attack feels like for you so use that to advantage. Should you feel one, call for help. Think about this, if you husband were home and you had a heart attack the smart thing would be to call an ambulance. They can treat you on the way to the ER. So either way you should be going via ambulance and your husbands presence isn't quite so important.
Frankly, my wife's driving is more likely to kill me than a heart attack so that's what I'd do.
I've had many heart attacks and still around annoying family and doctors. I decided long ago the only one I'm going to worry about is the last one I have.
