Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
Carvedilol is a Beta Blocker and intended to lower the blood pressure reducing the strain on the heart and allowing it to self heal. It's a common drug for heart patients. It definitely can drain your strength and cause you to be sluggish. I take a slightly different Beta Blocker which is extended release so I take it at bed time. That has two benefits, it helps me sleep and I feel better during the day. These drugs do take time to build up in your system and so you need to have some patience before giving up on it. Ask the Dr about taking it at bedtime.
Clopedigrel also known as Plavix is a blood thinner in simple terms. It helps reduce the risk that a clot will form and cause another heart attack (Myocardial Infarction). Again it has a long list of side effects.
Make sure on your next appointment with the Cardiologist you ask him about a Cardiac rehabilitation program. They are a huge help to those especially just starting on this journey. You are monitored in a medical setting and they teach you proper nutrition and exercise procedures for your specific needs.
Good luck
88/60....... Way to low for me. It also causes me to have breathing problems! He has me taking them twice daily. I haven't taken any today. I feel so much better, I can think breath, walk steady.I'm going to take the other one
to night 's the one that I feel is very important to take because it stops me from having a blood clot! I have very plaque built up at this point, I know that the Dr wanted me to stay on these,or at least give them.a chance to work which I intend to but Not If their going to interfere with my breathing. I will be calling his nurse tomorrow to talk to her about this and see what he wants me to do. Hopefully he'll just take me down to one a day or decrease the amount of it which is I'm on 75 milligrams and maybe he'll just do one a day instead of twice a day. Don't you think that my blood pressure is a little on the low side Lol! Trying to stay positive and I appreciate that you wrote me back it's very much appreciated thank you so very much and have a blessed day. If you have anything to add to this please feel free to do so it seems like people aren't willing to give out information on here I'm kind of disappointed in this site because no one wants to talk about anything! However I am so glad that you got back with me as soon as you did because I am very worried about all of this thank you and have a blessed day however I am so glad that you got back with me if you did because I am very worried about all this thank you and have a blessed day
Yes, your BP does sound low. And, as RoboPop said, look into cardiac rehab. It's a great thing!!! You start out slow and go at your own pace, while being monitored and having the support of others. I was having trouble dealing with all of it at first so met with one of the social workers at the hospital, which really helped.
Hope you recover quickly and keep us posted. ;+)
All medications have side effects which may or may not affect you, no way to predetermine that. The good news for those of us with heart disease is there are many different versions of drugs such as Beta Blockers, so if one doesn't work for you another may, don't just give up.
I suggest you keep a journal between visits with your Cardio. List everything happening, including outside forces or what you were doing, for example Aug 8 2015, severe case of SOB. Walked 1/4 mile immediately before the shortness of breath...etc. This way when you talk to the Cardio he can better determine whether the problem is medication, or some other factor and help resolve it.
I know this journey is scary but it doesn't mean the end of the road. I'm nearly 9 years past my predicted expiration date and still here annoying many and I've outlived one doctor so I just make the most of life and laugh at everything else. It's all you can do.
My cardiologist told me a few things are key. Cut out sodium and salt. #1. No soda! Read labels. No fast food. Fast food is loaded with sodium. I drink alot of water now.
I worked out at the hospital in cardiac rehab for several months 3 times a week. I was hooked up to all the telemetry so they and I knew exactly what my heart was doing. I recommend it! Cardiac nurses are the best and they can answer every question and worry you have. This process helped me to understand my body with all the changes that had happened and not to be scared of every little twitch.
I've gone back to work and I am tired after a day of work. And I think most of that comes from the diabetes and med side effects.
Do you have a blood pressure cuff at home and check it regularly? Your numbers seem very low to me. But everyone's normal is different. Diabetes effects blood pressure too as well as inflammation in the body.
I too take Carvedilol and Plavix. It took alittle while to get to the right amount of Carvedilol.
The #1 thing that has helped me the most was cardiac rehab. I know I could call those nurses or pop in anytime for help. Check that out in your area.
