Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
My friends, I am celebrating and I want to share my joy with you all!!
December 13 2007 at about 12:30 AM my heart attack started, I was waiting for it for more than 3 years since,despite my angina, I refused any blood test or cath due to my phobia to the needles.
I believed that I was going to die. I thought I was ready to let me go ... to the extent that I had refused to play with my grandson, to avoid him to have any memories of a death grandfather.
As I had already told to my wife 100 times before, I ask her just to stay with me and DO NOT call for any medical help (otherwise they will use needles on me).
For 4 hours I was supporting the pain, but what I was not able to support any more was the desperation of my wife ... so finally I accepted the emergency to be called.
In the ER there was another battle, since she was no longer with me, I just wanted to die in peace and refused the cath... but they brought her in ... and I got 2 caths but they have to stop the procedure and insert a sort of pump (Pulsation Balloon) connected to a computer to keep my blood moving ... I was fully aware and dying of a cardiogenic shock.....
The end of the story is that I am here, reborn (at least in my mind) that night, thanks to the desperation of my wife and the ability of the cardiologists.
Now I enjoy every day of my life, I enjoy my grandson and my granddaughter, I plan to live as long as I can and tomorrow I will celebrate my Third Birthday!!!

Congratulations, and more for your successes. But please, tell us that other story! We all have phobias, and how you dealt with yours can be an inspiration to those of us with different types. Boot
The anniversaries can be tough, especially at first, because they bring back all the memories. It sounds like you had quite a personal struggle in the ER, not just a medical struggle. Anniversaries are also time for reflection. I'm glad you're now happy with the outcome.
I can't imagine 3 years. On the 22nd it'll be 6 mths for me, and the last month has been the hardest. I wish you all the best. Give your wife and grandson a big hug!

Yes you are a miracle which a higher authority has plans for. 3 years and still celebrating! That's gratitude. It's funny, now that I have two different dates for MI's to remember, I really don't get into all the celebrating hooplah, however; I sure get into other folks anniversaries and celebrating theirs. Your story was quite harrowing. That must be some kind of Phobia to face, contemplating sure death or a syringe. Irrational fear is quite real to the people who suffer. It took me a great deal of work to get past my anxiety issues.

Three years is a great inspiration to the rest of us. I'm so glad that your wife and the doctors were persistent- it sounds like they found a way to get around/past/through your fear and kept you from dying.
I'm really glad that you can enjoy these years with your wife, your grandson, your garden, and sharing your thoughts and feelings with us all here.
Now, really- Please, please, please tell us the story about what happened regarding the needle phobia!
