Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.
Hi I am a newbie here and my story goes like this... I have extremely high blood pressure (211/120) which I am told will eventually lead to me having a heart attack or stroke. My question is...how do you know when you are having a heart attack? What are the symptoms? My doctor is playing around with combinations of meds for my high blood pressure, but unfortunately nothing has been working. I am a 45 year old female and at the moment I am under a great deal of stress at work which I don't see ending anytime soon.

Recognizing a HA can be difficult because the symptoms vary by individual. Mine was just a sharp pain right at the bottom of my rib cage
and a little nausea. I didn't recognize it because I would have expected the kind you se on TV..clutching the chest and falling over. After about 2 hours I got a sharp pain in my back on the left side and that's what sent me to the doc. I drove myself still not having a clue what was happening. Some people have shortness of breath or a severe burning sensation instead of pain. Some have pressure on their chest , like something is squeezing really hard. And it is not uncommon for women to have jaw pain and think its a bad tooth ache.Look up heart attack symptoms on line and if you have any doubt that youre having one call your emergency number or have someone take you to the ER immediately. 50% of people who die from a heart attack die in the first hour , so time is critical.
I have heart damage that could have been prevented if Id had any idea what was happening.
