discussions and advice for people who survived heart attacks
I am new to the support group and need some advice from the collective. I am 44 and had a massive (if it really needs qualification) MI about 50 days ago. Had my third stent put in about 3 weeks ago. I am not sure yet about the overall long term outlook. I start Cardiac Rehab in two days and have and anointment with doctor next week where I will have Echo done to see the ejection fraction. I feel lucky to be alive but I can't help but think of the worst at this time. I have a lot of anxiety about my long term survival rate. It occupies much of my daily thoughts and unfortunately is causing much of my insomnia. I read article about prognosis for MI survivors being 60% at best within 20 years. Can't help but feel worried that I will fall within the unlucky 40%. How do you all deal with such worries?

van man , just take it one day at a time, i know someone thats living with 9 stents, do the cardio rehab, eat right, try and stay positive.. all the best! we cant wory, have to trust the process, doctors, and lots of love .. good luck! Dinz

Yes, one day at a time...the most important thing is patience...it may take a while but it does get better...the meds will be tough to get used to due to the side effects, but in general, within 4 to 6 months you're feeling much better after your final procedure....I had two stents inserted after a severe mi about 3 and a half months ago, and I have experienced the spectrum of emotions. On occasion you may still experience a little chest discomfort or residual angina, but it gets better. Take your meds, eat right, and do exactly as the doctors say. Do cardio rehab if you can and exercise as much as possible. All the best:-)

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
