My left artery had a stent inserted and my right one is still 60% blocked - so as soon as I recover - need a stent there too.
Besides the non-stop exhaustion (and this is 5 weeks after my emergency operation) I am still very blue and depressed.
I have read up on post-heart attack depression - and the fact that depression inhibits recovery and cuases high fatality rate - makes me even more depressed.
Ignorance would have been bliss in this case.
When does all this sadness dissapear?
- sadness about loss of health, sense of mortality, loss of life's pleasures (all my pleasurable vices taken away from me in one fell swoop - everything from ciggies to alcohol to sugar - I mean everything)
Yeesh - what's the point of just surviving in this fearful bubble?
I understand completely! I have just had my 3'd heart attack and that was 5 years after the last one, which made me quit smoking. (recently) The cardioligist looked at my cup of diet dr. pepper and said this is not your friend, I answered neither are you. I absolutely refuse to give up my diet dr, pepper, it's about all I have left. The sadness will disappear when You decide that you;re ready to enjoy your life for what it is, as a heart attack survivor. I am a diabetic and can't seem to walk too far away from the icecream, but hey It one of the very few things I enjoy. To survive is a blessing, please remember that. I am your neighbor in that bubble, lets support each other okay?
What you are feeling is normal. There is a lot of life changes that happen after a heart attack. I have had to give up sodium, caffeine and I have a liquid restriction.
No the changes are not always easy to accept, but they are for all of our own good.
Depression hit me immediately after the second cath, I felt lost and I had no idea of what was going on. When they would come to take blood, it was like wildcat drilling for oil. Most of my viens blew with all of the different meds being pushed through them.
I went through so much during those first few days that I could not comprehend everything all at one time. I was in and out of surgeries, tests and xrays. I think that I had so many xrays that I should be glowing. Nonetheless, I continued to do what they wanted me to.... Then I realized that I had to do what I could to stay on this side of the ground.
It will pass if you communicate your feelings to the doctors and follow their directions.
How could you possibly be depressed? You only had the most harrowing experience of your life. You lost the best friends you ever had, Booze, Smokes, Sweets. Chrsit Almighty Hellooooo. Go Figure! He is saying the same thing I was saying weeks after you brought me back from that, well, where ever you had me for those long short minutes. How can I help this guy? I forget the exact process but you brought me out of it in a fit of tears, a belly laugh and a good kick in the ass. You got any more dat for 43ha? Or does he need your deluxe version. We'll see. News at Eleven 'Big Guy"
Unfortunately, I am reasonably certain that a lifestyle that involves the minimum of activity, cigarettes, ingesting carbs, cholesterol and alcohol is a recipe for an encore heart attack.
I hope you are doing better by now. I have the same symtoms....depression, depression....I broke down in the grocery store,,,,however, I don't really drink nor did I ever smoke but it is still there. Have you started cardio rehab? That is suppose to help....I had 99 percent blockage and 60 like you. They won't do the stents (or my doctor) until it is 75 percent. Just keep thinking one day at a time...Of course that is easier said that done....
Please let us know how you are doing by now --- Best, Maryskidlid
