what do you think it is?
I don't know what the meaning of life is, I just enjoy it while I have it.
From the simplest self-reproducing systems (stars, possibly the entire universe) to the most complex (human civilizations, and, in the future, as terraforming becomes viable, the entire terrestrial biosphere), these systems metabolise matter, energy, and information from their environment in order to create more such systems, even better suited to their environment, in a process of constructive competition with other, similar systems.
Life exists to exist, reaching ever higher and achieving higher levels of interconnectedness. Why? Because it is life. Exist, and interact with others. Strive to be the very best you can be. Build your world around you. And before your part in the unfolding drama is over, pass your existence on to others, who will carry it ever further. Learn. Teach. Grow. Create. That is the meaning of life.
There is a good book on the subject called, "Man's search for meaning," written by a holocaust survivor Very eye opening..
When did I know my life had meaning?
When My Grandfather asked me to drive, when Grandma asked me to help her up the stairs, when my mother requested me to do some shopping, when Dad called me 1st when Grandpa passed away, when I was asked to be a paulbearer at 9 relatives funerals, when my daughter first wrapped her little baby fingers around my pinky, when my son cried for me as an infant instead of his Momma, when my stepsons held me upright at my grandfathers funeral, when the same stepsons still call me dad though there mother and I are divorced, when a coworker confides in me for help, when a friend asks me to make sure he lives the night, when a preacher comes to my door and doesnt preach, when a neighbor offers to paint my house cause I kept his from burning, when my youngest son calls me from jail and firmly states "I screwed up", when my parents act like school kids just cause I drove them around, when my bird dog offers her paw to my hand as if she knows Im blue.
the meaning of life is a central focus point for everyone and everyones focus is on many different revolving things all centered on what goes on both good and bad in their short existence on this earth, throw out the really bad, hold onto the exceptionally good and be at peace with the mediocre average it all together and thats what I would call the meaning of life, or at least the meaning of living a life
Seriously, since becoming a father, the meaning of life for me is to ensure the best possible life for my girls. It's what drives me every day. And I think the tiniest moments, the ones that pass in a blink, like when I'm driving my girls back from a weekend with them (they're 11 and 8), and while my older one naps and the younger one is singing quietly to a song and I tell her what a pretty voice she has and I can hear her start singing a bit more loudly...those are the moments that make the hair stand up on my body I feel so happy.
I'm too busy enjoying it to question it.
:p
Oh, and I agree about all that other crap about kids and stuff too : )
Yes, my sons (9 & 12) are my biggest meaning of life answers right now...
I also once heard it was a process in which to learn how to overcome your fears.
