Iv'e heard that can be caused from lack of hormones. i dont know much more about it.

A prolapsed uterus is when the uterus pokes through the cervix. There has been women that have had such severe cases that their uterus has literally come all the way through the cervix and poked out the vaginal opening. So if the uterus is not where it's supposed to be then yes that could cause painful intercourse. But then again so can inadequate lubrication(natural or added from a bottle)

There can be many reasons for painful intercourse. But it is important to know that pain is never normal, if she hasn't gone to the doctor to see what the problem is, I would suggest that she go.

I noticed that you state that you are 54. If your wife is around the same age and has gone through menopause/change of life. Then inadequate lubrication could be what is ailing her. Because menopause can cause vaginal dryness, which in turn causes decreased natural lubrication. Using a water-based lubricant can help with this issue. I would recommend ID Glide.

But again make sure she gets it checked out. And talk to her about it. Communication is everything.

Thanks for the replies. She is about the same age. However she told me this several years ago when we were still have sex (if you can call once a month as having sex)so I don't think it is menopause. I know we need to communicate, but we don't. I know she needs to see and Dr. about this but she will not. Thanks again.

Sounds to me like she should go back to her doctor, or better still find another doctor and discuss her options. Hope it works out OK, it sounds nasty.

The uterus doesn't poke through the cervix, the cervix is a part of the uterus. The whole thing, cervix included falls into the vagina. That can create very painful sex. My MIL's would be hanging out of her every morning, before her hysterectomy.

Remtana, The uterus turns inside out and protrudes through the cervical opening and into the vagina. When severe enough the uterus can protrude outside of the external opening of the vagina. Prolaspe is synonymous with protrude.

She should get yearly pap smears to check for cancerous cells. If you can get her to get checked out that doc will be able to tell if she is having a prolapse. My mother in law had one very badly, her cervix and uterus was hanging out of her. She had a hysterectomy. With a prolapse they would do a vaginal hysterectomy which is the easiest way to perform one.
