Emo is similar to goth. People who don't follow the "group"
Lots of times people refer to "emo" as cutters (people who cut their skin) or they will wear dark clothes, have pale skin, tats, piercings.
Generally not the happy go luck bubbly type.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, just the way "emo" is perceived.

I see that often at work. I see lots of things at work - coworkers and customers... Sometimes I wonder if people look in the mirror before they go outside.. It is amazing how many people think what they are wearing looks good on them, when it clearly does not...

A young woman I work with has had blue and pink hair.. I call her cotton candy. It looked cute on her, but since she got a promotion she has become more conservative. Blonde on top with brown layers below.. Not roots, under layers - it looks good, doesn't look like she has a blonde wig or hat over her hair.

It's just weird because every person that I have heard being referred to as Emo, always has colored hair. It's kinda sad that cutting is so common that there's a name for them.

Emo is short for Emotional.

There is a stereotypical Emo who is likely to cut themselves wear dark makeup and have a spiky hair style. however it is important to note that not everyone with the Emo style is a cutter.

Thanks for the clarification emopaws. I am very relieved to hear that not all emos are in to cutting. I was just wondering, do you have colored hair? What color is It if you do?

Well I don't really know about the whole emo scene. I don't like thinking negatively about anyone, no matter how hard it is for me to understand. I don't really understand the emo or goth culture. I just know that a girl that seemed like an emo to me was really nice to me. I only say that she was an emo because she has blue hair. Lol that's all I know about the emo culture, they like blue and pink hair.

I do NOT have coloured hair at this moment in time however I will say this is a simple lack of funds to do so...IF I could afford it I myself would have the tips of my hair dip died neon pink =)

Sometimes I cut or burn or bite myself. I dont think of myself as whiny bitch but I will say it started after I was raped as a child...

Full, I am not saying all people who cut are whiney emo kids. But most emo kids whine and complain and often times cut theirself.

I know all im trying to say is that some people have it hard and its not always how it looks from the outside and it might take looking through their eyes to understand. Many kids dont know how to control their emotions and they let it out as anger and frustration and sadness. Hopefully they grow out of it

I'm an abuse survivor and I also still self injure at times.*shrug*. I don't really care.
I read that about 50 % of self injurers are child sex abuse survivors.
