As for dating, I think you may have tried too soon.
Just work on you for a while. Be happy with you.
Then you will have the self confidence it takes to get out there and attract healthy women.
Good Luck to you.
Honestly, taking a serious, SOLID break from women might do you massive good.
It sounds to me as though you need to find who you are after losing your wife. You should be far more important to yourself than any woman walking this planet.
Be honest with yourself - have you invested so much time, energy, and personal emotion into anything other than girls since your wife passed and the whole thing with your step son? Perhaps youre attracting women who are creating more problems because you yourself are not complete.
Seriously. Step back and work on yourself. There will always be an abundance of women in this world after youre done.
It sounds like you have really been through the wringer. Everybody heals and is able to move on at a different pace .... but if you admit that you have been chasing a feeling, then it seems to me that you need to work on yourself more and be comfortable with who you are.
The feeling you get when you connect with someone else is amazing. It is a worthwhile pursuit to connect with another person and to be able to share your life with that person ... but you should not be in a relationship if your goal is to fill a void in your life. A relationship won't be healthy or successful if you are relying on the other person to "complete" you. You need to be able to stand on your own two feet, love yourself, be comfortable with yourself, and have something to bring into a relationship other than a "need" to be filled by the other person. I'm sure this sounds cliche', but that doesn't make it any less true.
When I say take a solid break, that means put the focus completely on you. Starting relationships right now is not likely going to end in anything positive.
Case in point: you seem to be a bit confused about whats going on with this girl. You refer to it as a date, then say youve made it clear to her you only want a friendship, then refer to it as dating.
You posted a recent thread about being torn up over a woman you were "just friends" with - your versions of friendship were two very different ideas.
Maybe join some clubs, get some hobbies and meet people to be friends with. Knock the word "dating" out of your life for awhile.
I don't think love can come quickly - you need get to know the person as they also need to get to know you. It could take up to a year before both people let their guard down long enough to shine through to the other.
Falling head over heals, whisk me away kind of love can crumble much faster, much stronger then a take it slow kind of romance.
So take it slow, find yourself, find some friends, take it slowly from there.
If you "Need" someone (a special person) in your life - it will send out the vibe of being needy.
Wish you much luck with all of this.
You said it, drew! Sex and romance only screws you up. Just focus on friendship...for now!
How are the workouts going? Physical exercise sure helps me, through many funks.
Was just wondering, why is it actually necessary on this date to decide whether you are just going to be friends or not?
Can't you just be relaxed and enjoy each other's company for what it is without having to make any decisions or commitments?
I think so often in life we are too worried about giving things a label instead of just being and enjoying the moment for what it is.
If she tries to push you for an answer maybe just say something along those lines that you are not in a position to make any major decisions or commitments right now and you just want to enjoy getting to know each other.
