I agree. Maybe Americans find those "other" activities boring. Maybe it's because America is a decadent, capitalist society that is eroding from within. Me, too. I do not understand the obsession when there is so much to do in life! I've had two kids (now teen and preteen) and we'll....I don't need sex that often! I could survive with once a week or less...more than that -- it's kind of boring. In addition, sex is everywhere and in almost everything! Maybe if people covered up a bit they would seem more attractive....but as skimpy as clothing has gotten....yawn....it leaves so little to the imagination. I'd rather feel good all day than just for the short amount of time it takes to have sex....I love snuggling and spooning my husband in bed more than sex, too.

Koolman, I believe it is the former. There is no moral majority anymore. Hasn't been for a long time. Really though, I don't understand why society looks down on people with morals nowadays anyway. What's bad about having morals? I'm not saying everyone should be a saint, but most morals do actually prevent someone from going down a self destructive lifestyle. Hence why most former drug addicts seek religion. Be it Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism. Doesn't matter. And all of those religions have great morals, too. Nevermind the elitists. They don't count.

Agree, Boo, there's more to life than sex, but we don't know people's socio-economic backgrounds...maybe there's a whole segment of America that is dirt-poor, in high-crime neighborhoods where they're afraid to step out onto their own street, so all they can afford and manage to do for entertainment is fuck.

Or maybe many people in society fucking are in their late teens and early 20s, 'cuz the hormones are raging and they're rebelling against their parents. Although there are a lot of dirty old men too, like me lol, but, as I age, yes, even sex is losing its lustre and importance. Now I crave INTELLECTUAL stimulation more than anything, and sadly, especially in the media, ain't seeing much of it.

Daredevil: "Society" is really quite diverse, so to make a one-size fits all statement about America is rather obtuse. Are you actually referring to American MEDIA? If so, sex always sells (because a large proportion is buying, yes) and our celebrities could show a little less skin, which would leave more to the imagination. Or maybe a lot of Americans HAVE NO imagination, so need sex force-fed to them in large helpings of flesh.

Maybe it's because stupid people procreate much faster and more often than smart people and there's just an over abundance of idiots in the world?

I agree, Daredevil, morals do prevent people from going down a self-destructive road. Too bad so many people are too stupid and apathetic to abide by them. It's like they're TRYING to destroy themselves and others, in effect saying "I'd rather be the youngest, cutest corpse in the morgue, rather than (God FORBID) get old.".

The point was well taken that poverty-stricken neighborhoods often over-indulge or over-value sex because it is the ONLY entertainment available. I lived in Camden, NJ for a short time when I was 38 years old. Camden is one of the poorest and most violent cities in the USA.
No more movie theaters open. No shopping (unless you count the now-defunct Woolworth's). Washing machines broken at the laundromat, even. Nowhere else in my life did I get more attention from men than in the barrio in Camden! WOMEN were incredibly valued, and not just for the sex act. Women were the only distraction the unemployed, broke, bored men had.

Since WW2, America has been a superpower in the world. We have had the strongest economic strength than most countries in the world. We have grown accustom to convenience and have 'boxed' ourselves in. Walmarts, SuperTargets, Fast Food restaurants, Caribou Coffee, etc. This list has goes on and on. Family run businesses and restaurants have been over turned by these super stores and chains. We are herded around like caddle, waiting in long supermarket lines, etc. The personal touch of our society is dimished. We leave our house (box), jump into our car that is in our attached garage, drive to the store or fast food restaurant, wait in line, get our stuff and then go home. We don't talk to strangers.

If you look at other countries in the world, people walk or bike to their destinations. They talk to people and they congregate more. Their relationships are more diverse and flowing and they know more people. They have a sense of community and know their neighbors. They visit their neighbors and go into each others homes more.They pre-occupy themselves with all types of people in their daily life and work to get to know them.

I think because of this, there is a greater sense of quality that gets established. Morals are transferred to one another and their sense of "family" extends past just their immediate relatives. Because of this, they treat each other with more respect as they would a family member because their is a sense of community. They take time to build relationships because they don't live in an "immediate gratification" type of society.

Just to add. If you congregate together in larger groups, their is tendancies to push yourself to be more interesting, more charismatic, have a better sense of humor, etc. You see this today with kids in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. A lot of people together at the same time. The popular kids are admired and the less popular kids tend to follow in their foot steps. In our schools, a min society is established and the kids that are most popular are followed. Typically, the popular kids have more to offer with charisma and personality.

This comes back to my point about other countries on which more people congregate together more often. The same concept applies as it does in our school system in the US. People are more aware fo the quality that is out their because they are exposed to the higher quality individuals in larger groups and spend more time with them and admire them. This raises the overall quality of the society as a whole.

Which allows for more other diverse activities other than immediate gratification such as just sex. It's lazy because American's have grown sociably lazy.

I've always thought it to be true that the poverty level, uneducated people in America seem to be the ones to over-breed. I thought this was to get on and stay on the welfare system, since it is basically a kids for dollars system. But it didn't dawn on me that those same people were just bored.
It could be that since there are so many of them not being supervised that they are brought up on the media which is a constant selling of sex. And I suppose it's a cheap high. I liken casual sex to doing drugs or drinking. It's all about getting that buzz.
