" Until you love and accept yourself completely, no one will ever love you the way you deserve"
I don't agree with that statement because.. People don't love you for how YOU are, they love you if they are a person capable of love.
Take for example a Father or a Mother who abandons a child. Did they not "love" that child because the child had not learned to accept themselves yet? Of course not! It's never about us when people love us, it's always about the person doing the loving!! Some people just aren't capable of it. Why we as humans think anything is about "us" is a great mystery .
People are running around trying to find a person to meet their own needs and they are just calling it love.
Think about it
That is a very good quote!
The book the Four Agreements says people should never try to change each other. If a person isn't just as you like them from the get go... it says.." Don't be with that person" lol.. easier said than done though because people are always a mix of things we like and things we don't!
I take issue with "the love you deserve"..........no one "deserves" anything....love is a gift. this "deserves" thing is hand in hand with "we're all special" and is part of the entitlement generation. the OP's quote is on that "gift" theme from my perspective....and it's true - unconditional acceptance/love is an enormous gift, and the people capable of giving it are truly divine people. To be loved unconditionally is rare, and it allows a person to blossom.
And by the way - if we're all special, then none of us are. That's the way that sentence works.
I agree that we should all try to have a healthy level of self love, without becoming demanding.
Balance in all things, ya know! Not always easy to achieve.
I think we often get what we give...so giving unconditional love and being a lovable person are important. But it's hard to do consistently!
