I use nicknames when I can't be bothered to use someone's real name. Calling someone sweetie, doll, sunshine....sparky puts them on an impersonal list in my head.
Likewise it doesn't bother me at all when I'm called that... nor would it bother me if my GF called others Hon or something similar.
I don't believe I call my friend's husbands nicknames...that seems inappropriate.
Some people just do that. I know, living down south, guys in stores, etc call me hon and sweetie.
Probably not.
I'm simply reminded of the Shirley McClaine/Debra Winger movie.
I ask if its necessary these girls feel "at home" with him to begin with.
Why does he need these girls to feel that level of comfort with him - especially at the cost of yours?
I would not be ok with.
Besides I don't like when people that I barely know or met for the 1st time treat like that, it makes me very uncomfortable.
