Movies are fiction, of course, but I've seen some parallels between art and life. Some of my favorites:
The Cutting Edge (D.B. Sweeney as an Olympic hockey player who sustains an injury to his occipital lobe and loses peripheral vision in his right eye, which forces him to retire from professional hockey, so he reluctantly accepts an invitation from a Russian trainer to figure-skate with a temperamental Olympic ice queen who was one step from winning the gold medal and threw it all away, only to go through dozens of partners before being coupled with this unlikely male. The two begin their relationship adversorially, as a fierce competition, not only of ice-skating prowess but of matched wits).
Far and Away (a similar improbable relationship of the poor tenant farmer, Joseph, played by Tom Cruise, fiestily bantering with the rich-but-stifled daughter of the plantation owner Christie, Shannon, played by Nicole Kidman. Shannon rescues Joseph from a "pistols-at-dawn" showdown and the two immigrate to America, where Joesph develops a taste for prizefighting to better pay the rent, whereas Shannon descends into Joseph's world of drunkenness. Jealousy and competition also ensues)
Titanic (another unlikely but not impossible relationship between the rich-but-stifled daughter of a wealthy family, Rose, who is destined to marry a man who she doesn't love, and, about to jump off the deck of the massive boat, is talked out of it by dirt-poor artist, Jack. The two enjoy a brief-but-passionate love affair before the doomed ocean liner strikes ice and sinks and Jack confesses his undying love to Rose before he freezes to death in the icy waters of the north Atlantic. The two were attracted to each other's melancholy and aesthetic tastes for the visual arts)

A lot of good dialogue, infinite words of wisdom from Helent Hunt's mother who says 'There is no such thing as a 'normal' boyfriend... they don't exist!'
I never aspired to be normal :-)
Also, Something's Gotta Give with Diane Keaton and Jack as the elder womanizer who only attracts youngers until he comes up against Diane, who rocks his world and breaks his heart.
Bogart & Bacall.
I liked Moulin Rouge, the unlikely singing dancing duo of Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor was brilliant in the backdrop of bohemian Paris !

Also, not to negate D.B. Sweeney's co-star in The Cutting Edge--her name is Moira Kelly. Oddly enough, haven't seen either of those two leads since, which is odd, because they're terrific in this movie!

brief encounter
"50 First Dates" with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore and also the two of them in "The Wedding Singer".
And perhaps the most unlikely pair...Jenny and Forest in the movie "Forest Gump".
Of course, how can we forget Love Story, starring Allie McGraw and Ryan O'Neil? The rich preppy boy falls in love with the poor but snotty bookish nerd. The two of them had their spats but eventually found their groove, only to discover that she had terminal cancer at age 24. Bring some hankies to this one.
A Walk to Remember- I like the relationship between shane west's character and mandy moore's character, but there was more. The relationship between shane west and her dad and the relationship between mandy moore and God was interesting.
Somethings Gotta Give- The relationship between jack nicholson and diane keaton is funny and sort of believable in my opinion. Plus there's a whole interesting love triangle with her daughter in the beginning and then keanu reeves in the middle.
There's Something About Mary- I think this movie is just too funny- and the relationships between all of the characters and how they all confuse their obsession with this woman for "love" is interesting.
Even the Deputy quipped, "Hell, I ain't got a memory that you two ain't in !"
Sweet but not sugary :-)
It's a love story that begins as an adversarial/competition/fiesty intellect phase, where the two leads initially can't stand/despise each other, and, throughout the course of the story, gain a healthy respect for each other and each other's talents, then finally confess their love (when they've won the Olympic gold medal).
Her: "We're doing the Pamchenko." (a skating move)
Him: "Why?"
Her: "Because I'm in the mood to kick a little ass." (his line earlier)
Him: "You didn't have to do it."
Her: "Yes, I did."
Him: "Why?"
Her: "Because I love you."
Him: "Just remember who said it (I love you) first."
She smiles. They kiss. End credits. Ahh, only in the movies...
:p
Now that was a relationship in the movies !
Clark Gable was some magnet for the ladies !
