It IS a big deal and very distressing. It is a sore subject at my house because of everything that has been going on.
The only Thing that helps me is making more money.
I can make a lot, but my health doesn't allow me to work as much as I need to.
It is tough.
I'm a photographer, enjoy taking pretty pictures, want to take a lot more pretty pictures and make a lot more money in the process, but something's keeping me from doing so...the market's extremely violatile, it's free-lance and the opportunity just comes and goes...so I'm working a second, tedious, annoying, pain-in-the-ass chore second job, security officer, gatehouses, high traffic, annoying, pain-in-the-ass people, and even THAT job is slow. I'll probably only get ONE 8-hr. shift this week for a whopping $70 after taxes and gas. Oh well, every little bit helps.
April the wedding season pops to life, a little too late, not enough money to make up for a slow, shitty first quarter, January through March, but better than January through March!
I just joined shutterstock, a stock photography company, and submitted 10 images for editorial approval to be sold as stock photography. I want to have thousands of images approved and uploaded there as well as other stock photography sites by the end of 2016, the thousands of images that are necessary to generate hundred$ per month in commissions. We'll see how easy or difficult this is. Thanks for listening and responding. Best of success in YOUR endeavors, and better health!
Have you looked into selling your photo art?
Right now the medical industry is growing rather fast and offices are always looking for prints to hang.
Maybe you can form an alliance with business interior designers and sell some good prints on canvas?
I had to declare hardship and went through my pension when I was caring for my parents... I couldn't work then as my mom had Alzheimer's
I have found though that 'stuff' becomes less important since this is now how my life is going to be... I manage now with my less...
I remember times like you're having koolman and Aronia ...I hope the difficulties will soon be under some control... Big hug....x
Yes the "money versus" time issue is always a conundrum. Give up, largely, the violatile free-lance life and go to work for a company like Wal-Mart, for $8.75/hr., where we'd have to give up a lot of hours and be on call 24/7, available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, whenever they need us, if they need us, sometimes they'll cut our hours down to 15 or less per week, only to be let go on a moment's notice, continue to deal with the relatively quick and easy money of free-lance, when the business is there, then endure weeks, sometimes months of $0 income, or do both, find a steady, WEEK-TO-WEEK scheduled, fill-in job to work whenever one of the steady full-time employees needs a day off, which I'm doing as a security officer, and even THAT has been slow. Guess the other guards need the money and don't want a day off.
Funny you mentioned selling photos, Aronia! Since I originally posted this, I joined shutterstock, a stock photography site, and began uploading images to be sold to the world wide web! 2 out of the 10 introductory images I uploaded were approved and are now active to download on their site! "Cornstalks and Sunset", the sun a big orange out of focus blob behind in-focus cornstalks, captured with a 300mm telephoto lens, and "Neon in Bar", an abstract, impressionistic pattern of orangeish light trails created through a 10 sec. time exposure with the aperture set to f/11. The other images were rejected, mainly due to issues of soft focus and too dark.
I took their criticism to heart and went out shooting again armed with this new information. I've since been submitting dozens more images per day. Their admission approval requirements are fairly stringent, there's no guarantee there will be a client demand for any of these images, and any income will be penny-ante until I have THOUSANDS of images approved and active on the site, but I'm quickly learning their technical parameters for composition, etc., as well as what types of images their clients (magazine publishers, etc.) are screaming for, so I'm treating this like another free-lance assignment, going out and shooting exactly those types of images.
Shutterstock also accepts HD VIDEO clips and charges their clients A LOT MORE to use them, so naturally, from video, my commission is 10x higher in stills, thus, in my shooting expeditions, I'm shooting BOTH video and stills of the same subjects!
And anyone with at least a 5-megapixel still camera and/or at least a 1080p video camera, even a high-end Samsung Galaxy cell phone, can do this! Just avoid signs with lettering and recognizeable landmarks or close-ups of bank buildings, as these are copyright-trademarked, get signed model releases from any people you photograph, and, when you photograph flowers in nature, know the scientific botanical name of the flower. Lightning, sunrises/sunsets, beaches, parks, landscapes, these are all fair game!
Also - this struggle doesn't have to be that way....once I aligned myself with a purpose abundance just came naturally. I never worry about money now - I have a bit more than I need, and it's a steady flow. If you're open to it - Neale Donald Walsh has some good teachings in this area.
Personally, I think that doing free, simple things can be very refreshing and romantic. What could be better than a walk in the rain or hiking in the park or looking up at the stars?
With the right person you can find the love, friendship, romance and passion that you're looking for. If it's not a big deal to you, it's less likely that it will be a big deal to her. Make it a fun adventure!!!
To answer your question, yes. Finances are affecting my relationship. The man I'm dating has big financial issues. That in itself is keeping me from marrying him. Good luck to you!
One thing I have noticed over the years - Money and Spirituality or Self Worth go hand in hand. Show me a person with some self esteem issues - and I'll show you a person with a financial struggle....
Food for thought. Money is a poignant spiritual symbol for most people. I incorporate symbology and self worth into my training - makes a big difference.
I don't personally like Neale Donald Walsh that much - but he has some good work in this area - he kind of nails it. Get into "your flow", your authenticity, your oneness - whatever you want to call it - and money becomes a non issue.
I have a friend who is a painter, sells pretty well but has times where things are really slow. She has quite a bit of self esteem. Not sure she could put her work out there for the world to either love or loath without having self esteem. Paying rent, upkeep on her old car, health and car insurance, medical bills (she's an ovarian cancer survivor), miscellaneous expenses - managing that during the financial tough times, is simply stressful.
Koolman, how she handles it regarding relationships is that she never pretends she's not having cash flow issues, or never hides it. She's kind of a "this is what I do for my work, this is who I am, this is the reality of being with me, so live it or leave it." For her, doind that sort of takes the pressure off right off the bat. Twenty years ago, her marriage ended for many reasons, but one of them was the growing apart due to commitment to her work and the tension that caused. Relationships have come secondary to her work ever since, and I think she recognizes this is the life she has chosen. She's one of those people who has tried to work legit jobs, and she just is miserable doing that so she's willing to forego financial stability and a serious relationship right now to just to be able to live comfortably in her own skin.
What is the solution???
