It sounds like he is looking into the future and where it may be gong. Is he ready for the commitment of vows and not just the rest that goes with it? Keep your communications open with him and help him find the reason. ONe thing you haven't had kids so no matter what happens they will not be drawn in. Is he thinking he needs to be on his own? Has he been on his own before? These are questions you should think about in why he is feeling this way now after 2 years.
If you want to keep him, you will need to talk to him about it, get it out in the open.
If you suspect he may not want to say what's really on his mind, one trick you can use is to ask what he sees wrong in other relationships. Try to ignore the details and pay attention to the feelings and reasoning he uses. Then project those ideas back onto your own relationship as one way you can try to get at what's really bothering him.
Good Luck.
P.S. I like the idea of 3 bank accounts, yours, his and ours.
