Activities clubs like meetup.com, standing in line somewhere like the supermarket, a movie theater or the unemployment line (!). Any place where you're stuck together for awhile and feel obligated to make conversation to pass the time and alleviate the boredom.

I don't have a clue but I've heard that I can't meet people at my house. Who knew?

LOL JacJac. How do you decide which activities to join? Figure out who you are and what your passions are then you'll know...I joined a finance club and Christian club.

I start up conversations with any girl I come across be it in the grocery store, library, out biking, etc. Statistically the more you meet the better odds of exchanging numbers/emails and hooking up.

Dating sites haven't been the path for me....I've tried them and I get too nervous to actually contact anyone.

Mystery, I used to be the same type. I was quiet and shy to people I didnt know, but out going and out spoken with people I did.

After my divorce I just pushed threw it. It was scary sometimes, but I took on the attitude of I can start this conversation and maybe talk with this person, or they might not and I will probably never see them again in life.
So what do you have to lose, some will talk some will not, but you will be surprised how many women will respond back and chat even if it never goes any further. It will help your confidence and at the same time help with future women as they tend to like a confident man instead of a shy one.

I agree that the dogpark is a great place to meet people, because you're guaranteed to be there for a little bit. Or even reading at a coffee shop works pretty well because books are instant conversation starters. Find some place where you can have something to do (read, walk your dog, etc.) but will also be there for a bit of time and have a chance to strike up conversation. Not even sure if you have a dog but parks in general are a good idea. I guess it depends on the type of girl you're looking for!
