I find that the science behind these programs really narrows down your list of potential candidates. It sort of takes a lot of the guess work out of dating.. and starts you in a pretty good place. You get a few connections each day delivered to your email. It's very private and well controlled. Other dating websites are not as well managed, and it's like a free-for-all zoo.... you never know who is going to end up on your page. I prefer eHarmony.
I have two young girls as well, and so dating is difficult as it is. I don't have time to go getting deeply involved in a lot of different activities, hoping to meet my perfect single match. Sometimes the Internet is useful. :)
Good luck! I've just finished dating a guy from eHarmony for 8 months, and although he was a lovely guy, and we had so much in common, the distance relationship just didn't work. So now I'm looking closer to home.
If I were to become single again these are some of the things I would do-find out if there is a group of adults that go on group walks or jogs in my city or even a neighboring city and join up, take a cooking class, start snow skiing again or maybe finally teach myself to snowboard, and join a gym. These things I would do because these are my interests and hobbies and I figure if I were to put myself out there around people that share my similar interests and hobbies I am much more likely to meet somebody I would have the right kinds of things in common with. I might also start frequenting a coffee shop for gays/lesbians but I know that doesn't apply to everybody. Anyhow, I am glad you aren't willing to go to a bar to meet somebody because it's just not a good idea to start anything meaningful with a barfly or and alcoholic. Good luck in your quest for companionship and if the FB idea appeals to you give it a whirl!
