Couple things I'd like to know:
What age are we talking about (I didn't check your age either)??
Were you sexually intimate with him at some point?
How is your relationship with your own father (past and present)?
The reason I ask is that when a woman has had a not so great relationship with her father she looks for that void to be filled through a man...
Also the sex part is important because for a woman sex is an emotional event and changes everything in her mind and heart...While for the man it is MOSTLY physical (not always)...
I am wondering if you look to him for safety and security because you (possibly) never got that from your father.
I have often felt this way and have had to re-evaluate many relationships because of this...
Please don't take any of this the wrong way if any of this is off track...Only speculation from an outsider!

So the father void was not too far off track then. Do you feel like you need a father-figure in your life? Although he is not much older, do you feel he takes care of you in ways that you think you can't?
What if he asked to get back together with you? Would you? Would you consider an affair if he asked you for it?
I know for me it would be hard to stay friends with someone I had intimate sexual experiences with. I am actually going through that right now with someone whom I have great sexual chemistry with but nothing else...Nothing there to build a solid relationship on.
My goal is to stay far away from that relationship until I can assess what if any part he could play in the 'friend' world.
It really is a personal decision whether you want to continue in this relationship. Personally, I would only feel hurt and let down at the disappointment of not being with him, seeing him, him being only mine, especially since you guys were intimate.
I think for me, if there was no sex, then friendship could remain and be so much easier.
Just some thoughts for you to consider...
