I'd say, if it works for you and your loved one, go for it. There really isn't a right or wrong way to have a relationship... if there isn't any abuse, neglect, etc. then no harm no foul... you do however, have to find someone who shares the same point of view, or else it's quite possible hurt feelings, ego bruisings etc. will be present.
For me, I find my partner reserves the right to my individuality and surrenders power where needed, as I with him. Give 'n receive ... who woulda thunk it?
I have given up so much of myself in the past that I was what they wanted me to be. I am not doing that again. I loss something special, my spark and self esteem. It is taking some time to get it back.
