I think that for you to say something like that to your wife sounds like a cop out and what you should have done is be totally honest about how you can't handle what is happening with the intimacy between you/her and tell her that you want it to change and start looking for solutions together.
And what were you trying to achieve by telling her that you had chances of cheating on former wives but never did? You want a freakin cookie?perhaps a metal? or trophy? a pat on the freakin back!!?
Really? giving her permission to find someone else?Really?
I don't think you loved this woman. And I don't think she loved you.
Nuff said... You know what I think of ya..
You told her what you did about having the opportunity to cheat but that you never would. Then after telling her that you will never stray, you then basically gave her permission to stray.
She broke down in a huge bawlfest but refused to tell you why.
Why did she break down? Because the cheating didn't come after your conversation. It had been happening for a while before it. that is why you felt such a disconnect, why you felt you couldn't satisfy her.
She was carrying immense guilt. When you came to her and said what you said, it released the floodgates. She couldn't tell you because you told her you didn't want to know. Plus to admit that she had been cheating on you would have made her face her actions.
What could you have done differently ... what dren said.
There is nothing you could have done to prevent her from cheating, because she wanted to feed into her weakness.
As far as I'm concerned she is not a strong woman and is not the right partner for you. Good for you for divorcing her.
I'm sorry for your pain. Stop blaming yourself if you can for the fact that someone did not uphold their marriage vow. It is not your cross to carry.
hugs.
@ noumena, your opinions of the validity of my life experiences are yours to have. Was I looking for a cookie? pat on the head? No, what I wanted at that moment was affirmation, reassurance that my marriage was intact. You might possibly be correct in my wife not loving me, she is the only one that can truly answer that, as for my love for her, apparently it wasn't sufficient. Shame on me.
As far as asking women on this issue, I have friends that have given me input, mostly male. I wanted a ladies perspective. You bring a valid point to the thread also, insecurity, yes, I know that was an issue in my marriage. I also think that why some lash out without knowing the complete and total picture. And no, I am not looking for another spineless sap, never had a relationship with a spineless sap, the stbx is a good woman, and though she has had her share of surgeries on her back, she most definitely has backbone to make decisions and a life without me.
@Kit,Dren,Leather,ImDealing and Aronia, thank you all for your replies
I think it is spineless to hide the truth from people to "protect" them from hurt feelings and is definitely something not to build a marriage foundation on.
I also think it is cowardly to "give permission" to cheat. I mean....what does that even mean?! The message it sends me is "even * I * don't care enough about myself...so if you cheat, I'll understand~~ just please don't tell me cause I'd rather live in denial"
I mean, come on....you can be a better man than that!
I'm just making observations from what you have told me. I'm not judging in any malicious sense. I want you to learn and move forward as much as anyone else here does. I'm just pointing out the flaws I perceive. Of course, I could just be a jack ass vomiting out the mouth, but really, what would be my motive? Just to be cruel. No
I can see where Noumena *might* be coming from with this from a single post though. I will say though that their posts bring to mind the good ol' saying about the stones and glass houses... just sayin..
theres more 2 ur situation than u put down here like kids said. that bein said uk me hell no will i ever throw stones. b/c god knows im not w/o sin. neither is ne1 else even though sometimes we like 2 think we are, n act like we are.
just b/c u live in a brick house doesnt mean it cant fall! it just takes a lil more force 4 that 2 happen. which inturn unfortunately means alot more time rebuilding b/c the destruction was gr8r.
