I am curious why you think it would never work out with him. Maybe it could. Regarding reading men, I can only speak for myself on this. At times I don't want to show too much nterest too soon because I can be risk adverse in this area of my life. If I can tell there is interest from the other person, I am more willing to take the next step myself.
If you do start dating him, there are challenges for sure because of the "co-worker" part, but in my case, it has worked out fine.
Idk if that's an option for you but if it isn't then you're going to be stuck with this guy. Best thing you can do is find a buffer. Hang out with people, do fun stuff, and continue going on dates but that will only help temporarily. It's really going to suck if that's the case but it kinda can't be helped.
