Perhaps it's more of being a seeker on a journey, exercising awareness and will so as to not be sidetracked or at least for not too long.
Personally I believe the foundation is a combination of awareness, presence, clarity and perspective. To that end meditation works well for me.
Nutrition is important too, and for me that is a balanced diet put together from a wide variety of unprocessed foods.
I'm partial to resistance training as the centerpiece for my physical health, complimented with mobility and aerobic routines.
As far as who we attract, I believe there's such a complex mix that drives the end result it's hard to say, but I'd be surprised if anyone solely attracts one type of person.
Perhaps it's more relevant who we decide to focus on from the pool of candidates, and understanding why we make the choices we do?
With all that being said, I think the key to improvement in any endeavor circles back to awareness, presence, clarity and perspective, and that's why I say this is the foundation.
That's the positive affirmation: We can change most any aspect of our experience if we work at improving the capacity and efficiency of these qualities.
it helps me keeping a low carb diet
it helps me reading and meditating
i am no where healthy yet as far as relationships...i struggle with co-dependency with men and letting my kids take advantage of me, it is hard for me to say no...

cab: I myself would like to make time for yoga! It is so relaxing and involves much soul-searching.

Yep, that's exactly it. I perceive myself as having a dark side in the form of lust and a really mean temper, and that is why I attract similar types. There's plenty of company in the dark side.
"awareness, presence, clarity and perspective"
That sounds great, and, oh, I'm aware, have presence, clarity and perspective alright, enough to know that I don't like what I'm seeing, in myself and others. Disassociating from others is a good first start. Then working on the inner calm is necessary.
Attaining inner calm is key. I see you are considering yoga and from what I understand that's considered by many as one potential path, as is Tai Chi.
Prayer, chanting and gratitude are other paths to and/or components of finding inner peace. There are many others.
My go-to method is meditation and specifically mindfulness. Mindfulness is kind of broad and right now I am practicing Samatha, which is also known as Calm Abiding meditation.
Tai Chi has also been referred to as moving meditation, and yoga can be thought of in a same vein.
Whatever method is used the trick is constant practice and to approach it as a continuous improvement project.
In my opinion people don't need to do yoga, low carb or anything fancy at all.
For me, it's about moderation in all things.
When anything is out of balance I feel we as people know it instinctively.
I like to move my body to music. low impact. I'm most conscious of how my body feels, Most of the time I eat only when I am hungry. I enjoy myself sometimes by snacking in social situations when food is more fun than necessity. I recognize when I need to regain balance and I just do it. ( sort of like the Nike Slogan) ha ha
As for emotional balance. I hate the way I feel when I lean toward self pity and I do everything I can to ward that off. I strive to treat others as I want to be treated and I strive to take personal responsibility for my actions without blaming others I want to admit my mistakes and admit when I'm being an asshole.
I am only going to attract healthy, interesting, thoughtful people - and to do so, I need to be one.
Excercise (gym, walking, tai chi), soul - meditation, church, living ethically, The challenge - I'm moving OS. I've never been there before and am learning the language - but putting myself so far out of my comfort zone - I hope will trigger the changes whilst maintaining the quality objectives.
I'm joining a gospel singing group, a hiking group, I'm going to run a meditation/practice group, write, read, talk, listen, engage.
And while I can empathise with those not in a great place....I'm not going to invite them in for tea.
