Is there’s places hiring within walking distance from you or maybe public transportation?

You can manage this! You’ve already gotten your license and that is not easy. Where can you walk to work or ride a bike? I had to babysit and then get part time jobs while in school to buy my first el cheapo car. Do not see this as a terrible barrier unless you live out in the country not near anyone else. Maybe you could live with someone else? Make a list of all your choices, even wild crazy ones. All restaurants are hiring and at my favorite place, the servers make good money in tips. It’s a customer service skill to learn that will be useful all your life. Even fast food is a great learning experience. Make yourself a little sign for your wall that encourages you, I can do this, I will achieve a job, etc. Say positive things to yourself only. Your mom isn’t responsible for the rest of your life, you are and I have confidence in you!

I agree that a bike is a good option.... Once you start to work you can see if you can ride share with one of your coworkers.... They would probably appreciate help paying for gas.... xo

Yeah Mathieu, you are doing the right things for the right reasons, you're just right in the middle of the crappiest stretch. Keep saving. Keep grinding. Then buy your car. A construction worker huh? That suggests that you've got coworkers already. Ask for a ride. It will take some humility on your part, but you'll be working towards a greater goal. Try and remember that as you build up the courage to ask for the help.

As a construction worker, you can turn those skills into something else, some kind of job. Construction is booming where I live. You are very "No" oriented and this isn't going to give you a successful life. I know you have lots of job skills that could be turned into another good job. But the more negative you are, the more defeated in your self talk, then nothing good will happen to you. We defeat ourselves by being so negative and this turns off other people. Go into a job interview with a negative sulky attitude of "no" and we don't get hired. I have an acquaintance that did landscape construction and now works at a big box store that sells the lumber, electrical stuff, etc. I suspect deep down you are ready and I wish you the best.

This is a problem for a lot of people, I think. I don’t know your situation but there are many people who live in my city who work construction or who are general laborers and sometimes jobs sites for construction gigs are out in the suburbs which makes transportation challenging for those without cars who live in the city.

If public transport is an option, try it. I used to take public transportation to work years ago and construction guys were riding on the bus all the time. It won’t be forever, just until you can save to get a car. Cars are a big responsibility between maintenance and insurance.

Congrats on getting your license. It doesn’t seem like it, but that really is invaluable. It will give you more options down the road.
