how does someone at the age of 39 who is disabled and on a fixed income meet anyone? i am not physically disabled at all, i just see myself dying old and alone. i know for a fact that no women will accept me with my low income, its the truth so WHY?

I don't know about that. The other day my friend pointed out a couple to me- she used to be a beautiful woman- she was drinking and driving and had an accident. She killed the man she was with and really messed up her body. Gone are her looks and her health. She is now low income- can't work- the man she was with was basically holding her up, she has a brace on her leg and walks bent over. My point is he didn't know her before all this happened, they have found in each other what they need.

my husband was not wealthy by any means when we met. hell, we still arent! we were both waiting tables! now, almost 7 years later and surviving on about 40,000 or so a year, i am totally content. i am happy with the things we have and even if we were to lose everything we have i would still be happy to be with him.

It is not easy. I have dealt with similar issues. I was up and down, on and off disability...now unemployed. It is very possible to meet someone. I am in a relationship now, but not with someone with a disability...that is definitely harder because he doesn't understand if I don't feel well one day and gets really critical...people who have never been through disabling conditions often have a hard time understanding. If it's mental health issues, i would strongly suggest becoming a member of NAMI because they have a lot of interesting resources...and also, sometimes there is this place in Maryland called on our own and they have these yearly consumer conferences where they feed you a great dinner, have dancing and karaoke in the evening...if you have something like that in your area it's a lot of fun and you never know who you might meet. There are statistics that suggest people do best when they are about the same economic and educational level. It's a good thing to consider when finding a match. If you meet a woman who is also on a fixed income, things will be tough, but you will probably understand each other better and get to spend more time together too if you're both retired :). I think it's just most people without disabilities don't understand. I hope you can find someone who is more understanding. Good luck.

i wish there were get together's for mental health people in treatment, but this city is too small and all we have here are bars, bars and more bars. did i mention bars? i have looked into all kinds of things that i enjoy, no clubs, no interaction of any kind. i am praying that come February/March i will be able to move. maybe then i might have the chance to find some social event. honestly i have alienated myself with the people of this city, i stopped taking crap and abuse from people. i stood up for myself and now i cant go anywhere without people starting fights with me or women laughing at me because of my skeletons that someone broadcast-ed on facebook about me. maybe thats why nobody wants me around, no wonder my depression is at a all time high.
