Definition of cheating..

I just wanted to start a random discussion because I've never done it before and I think it would be fun to get different input from other people on here and what there thoughts are on cheating. So what is your (people on DS) definition of cheating?

Cheating is when you go outside your commitment to another person for emotional or physical gratification. When I say emotional, I mean your taking your issues with the relationship to someone other than your partner. What happens in a relationship should stay in the relationship. If you take it outside the relationship, your commitment loses it's perspective as a dialogue between two people and becomes a judgement of someone outside that bond who is going to be bias to your feelings. This serves no purpose in helping the other person and thus betrays their trust in you.

I can't really add much more then what Livetowin said in his post above. Everyone is accountable for their own actions and many have different opinions and thoughts on what they think cheating really is. I keep it pretty basic if my partner feels the need to step outside of our relationship for comfort and physical needs they may as well keep on walking as it is a deal breaker for me. Hiding things and lying about them when confronted is also a deal breaker for me as once the trust is gone I do not wish to invest my time waiting for my partner to prove he is worthy of me trusting him again.

Each couple needs to define what cheating is for their relationship. IMO, there is no one size fits all.

For us, if it's something you wouldn't do with another person in front of your partner, you feel you need to keep it hidden and a secret from him/her then it's cheating.

I agree with Livetowin and LeatherandLace...emotional cheating is just as hurtful as physical. And, if it's being done privately...hidden...covered up...and with fear your partner will find out...it's cheating.

I agree with Livetowin's definition of cheating. In my previous relationship, my ex discussed relationship issues with other women whom he did not even know over the internet in dating websites; boundryless behavior if you ask me.

My definition is: Anything you wouldn't do in front of your partner is cheating.

IMO, it's having a close, romantic relationship with the opposite sex, sharing and seeking time with that person when you are very aware of an attraction on both sides and finding your fullfillment there, rather than with the person you are committed to.
